Day 1: Palaces, Mosques, and the Bosphorus Breeze
Touching down in Istanbul late at night, we headed straight to our hotel in Beyoğlu. Despite arriving with low expectations, the district's charm instantly surprised us with its lively streets and welcoming atmosphere.
We started our day by immersing ourselves in the grandeur of Topkapi Palace. With its stunning architecture and centuries of history, the palace kept us roaming for almost four hours. Every corner unveiled a story of Ottoman grandeur—rooms adorned with intricate tiles, lush courtyards, and breathtaking views of the Bosphorus.
After soaking in the palace’s history, we embarked on a Bosphorus boat tour, floating past elegant portside neighborhoods, opulent palaces, and luxurious waterfront mansions. The serene experience offered a contrasting perspective of the bustling city.
In the evening, we visited the majestic Hagia Sophia Camii, a masterpiece of architectural transformation from church to mosque. It was by far one of my favorite mosques, its grandeur and history making it an unforgettable highlight. Following our visit, we dined at a cozy restaurant nearby, where we engaged in conversations with locals about the economic impact of inflation on daily life and businesses.
Later that night, we descended into the mysterious Basilica Cistern, where dim lighting and ancient columns reflected in shallow waters created a surreal, almost otherworldly atmosphere.
To end the day on a fun note, we made a quick stop for some Turkish ice cream close to home. True to tradition, the vendor entertained us by playing the classic game of keeping the cone just out of reach! Before heading back to the hotel, we made one final visit to Kocatepe Mosque, whose peaceful ambiance made for a perfect end to a packed day
