Day 1: A Day of Churches and Riverside Charm

We arrived in Porto early in the morning, ready to explore one of Portugal’s most enchanting cities. Our first stop was the Church of Saint Ildefonso, an 18th-century masterpiece covered in Portugal’s signature blue azulejo tiles. Standing in front of its ornate façade, we marveled at how much history is embedded into the city’s architecture.

Eager to fuel up before more exploring, we stopped by a nearby café for some soft croissants and lattes. There's something uniquely satisfying about sipping coffee while watching the city slowly wake up around you.

Feeling refreshed, we continued to Capela das Almas, another strikingly beautiful chapel adorned with blue-and-white tiles depicting religious scenes. From there, we wandered through Porto’s charming streets, making our way to the Church of Clerics. Climbing the iconic bell tower was quite a workout, but the panoramic views of Porto’s rooftops and the Douro River stretching out in the distance made the effort worthwhile.

By late afternoon, we found ourselves at the riverbank, where street performers entertained a lively crowd of both tourists and locals. It was the perfect backdrop for an evening stroll. As the sun began to set, we settled down for dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Douro River. The serene waters, the distant sound of music, and the delicious Portuguese cuisine made it a memorable end to our first day in Porto.

Day 2: Books, Wine, and a Golden Sunset

Our second day began with a visit to the legendary Livraria Lello, often regarded as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Stepping inside, it felt like we had entered a fairytale. The intricate woodwork, the grand staircase, and the stained-glass skylight made it clear why this bookstore has inspired so many creatives over the years. Despite the crowds, we took our time to browse through the shelves and soak in the enchanting atmosphere.

No trip to Porto would be complete without sampling its famous port wine, so our next stop was the port wine cellars. We opted for a tasting tour, learning about the history of winemaking in the region and savoring the rich, sweet flavors of several different varieties. By the end of the tasting, we were happily buzzed and ready to continue our exploration.

In the afternoon, we crossed the bridge to the south side of the Douro River, where we took a scenic walk along the riverbank. The views of Porto from this side were simply stunning, with colorful houses and buildings reflecting beautifully in the calm waters.

As sunset approached, we made our way to Regimento de Artilharia, a popular sunset viewpoint. Standing there, watching the sky turn shades of gold and pink as the sun dipped below the horizon, we couldn’t help but feel a deep appreciation for Porto’s beauty. It was the perfect ending to another incredible day.
